Practice Safe Distancing during Circuit Breaker Period

SCAL would like to remind employers to practice safe distancing measures at workplaces when they are carrying out essential works. Workers who are not assigned to carry out essential works should not be allowed into the worksite.

During transportation of workers, employers should implement measures as follows:

  1. Review maximum seating capacity of each lorry ensuring at least 1m clear spacing apart from each worker;
  1. Each sitting location to be clearly mark or labelled on the transport vehicles;
  1. Communicate to lorry drivers and workers to ensure effective implementation; and
  1. Workers to wear a mask throughout the journey.

Attached is an advisory from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) on compliance to safe distancing measures for workers ferried by lorries.

At the worksite, temperature checks should be conducted before workers are allowed to enter the site and after lunch (at least twice per day). Workers who are unwell shall not be allowed into the worksite and should seek medical attention at a General Practitioner (GP) immediately.

Health monitoring and safe distancing measures at the workplaces should be implemented to further mitigate the risks.

These measures include:

  1. Supervisors to closely observe works for any signs/symptoms of Covid-19;
  1. Reduce need for any duration of physical interactions;
  1. Ensure clear physical spacing of at least 1m apart;
  1. Stagger working and lunch hours; and
  1. No gatherings of persons is allowed.

Employers should also remind workers to observe good personal hygiene, monitor their health and report to their supervisor if they feel unwell.
