Circular No: CSR/097/07/gt

14 July 2017

Since 2013, SCAL has been collaborating with the Building Construction Authority (BCA) to improve the facilities and infrastructure at the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH). Every year, SCAL together with BCA would identify areas that require repair works. Thereafter, contractors involved in our CSR Sub-committee would provide manpower and materials for the actual construction activities. Please refer to past media coverage featuring contributions of SCAL members (attached).

This year, SCAL is opening this CSR opportunity to our members and we encourage the involvement and support from all to make a difference in the lives of the visually handicapped.

The key improvement works identified are as follows:

  • Floor tactile tiles to be installed to improve connectivity.
  • Make good drainage & drain covers around guard house for safety reasons.
  • Install handrails along the drain.
  • Install a gate or extend handrails to close up the gap along walkway.
  • Extend handrails for better connectivity to white cane club for safety reasons.
  • Make good the pathway.
  • Extend roof shelters for better connectivity.
  • Make good driveway for vehicles parking.
  • Install stainless steel trough style urinal and auto sensor flushing.
  • Install additional handrail on the right side.
  • Install additional LED T8 lights with auto sensor to improve visibility at night.
  • Replace existing fluorescent tubes with brighter LED.
  • To demolish abandoned office (asbestos roof) and level it with grass to extend to the existing field.

I have enclosed the proposed works for your reference.

Kindly indicate the specific works that you will be keen to take up by Monday, 31 July 2017. Allocation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information on SAVH, please visit their website at
