Lean Construction: From Planning to Flow using Last Planner System and Takt Planning
Presentation Synopsis:
In an era of tightening labor and complex schedules, “Building Smarter Together” requires a shift from top-down mandates to synchronized production flow. Moving beyond the theoretical models often shared by consultants, this session presents a practitioner’s journey of driving Lean construction specifically deploying Last planner system and Takt Planning across seven years of live construction at Teambuild.
The session opens with a live simulation of the "Parade of Trades," visually demonstrating how localized speed—without coordination—creates systemic bottlenecks. We will then deconstruct the Last Planner System (LPS) and Takt Planning, the "metronome" of construction that aligns trades into a predictable rhythm.
To provide maximum practical value, I will share real-world implementation artifacts from our own project sites, including actual 6-week look ahead planning boards, Takt Planning for different stage of construction, and constraint logs. By seeing these tools in action, senior management will gain a strategic roadmap to replace daily firefighting with a disciplined, high-velocity production system that delivers consistent results.
