About SCAL-Lu Ban Committee
Master Builder Lu Ban (鲁班) (507–440 BC) is an innovator and structural engineer, he is revered as the patron saint of builders and contractors and a symbol of Chinese excellence. The SCAL-Lu Ban Committee is dedicated to honoring Lu Ban's legacy and preserving the tradition of his influence on the construction trade by playing an active role in granting bursary awards to both schools and individuals, contributing to the support and enhancement of their educational endeavors. The committee also supports the planning and execution of the yearly Lu Ban Birthday Anniversary Celebrations and ceremonial prayer.
The annual SCAL–Lu Ban Bursary Awards aim to support and encourage the school-going children of employees from SCAL member companies who may need additional financial assistance. Through this initiative, SCAL hopes to ease the financial burden on families and motivate students to continue striving for excellence in their academic journey.

Who can apply
To be eligible, applicants must:

Be employed directly by SCAL member company (Ordinary, Associate or SLOTS) - not applicable for subsidiary companies. Please refer to the SCAL Member Directory HERE for the full list of members.

Have completed at least two (2) years of continuous employment with the SCAL member company at the point of application.

Be either Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents.

Total gross household income not exceeding S$5,000 per month.

Be applying for their child(ren). Recipients of the bursary must be children of the successful applicants.
Submission Requirements:

Submissions under the ‘Primary School’ category:
-
Students are to submit a drawing by your child illustrating her understanding/perception or anything related to the construction industry, including buildings, places and people that resonate with them

Submissions under all other categories:
-
Students are to submit a short essay (maximum 500 words) on what they observe about their family member working within the construction industry, the stories they heard and what excites them, projects that their family members are involved in and what it means to them. Suggestions or wishes they have for the the future of construction industry will be.
Assessment Criteria
Applications will be assessed based on:

Academic results for AY 2025 - Strong overall performance, including key subjects Mathematics and Science
-
Co-curricular Involvement - Active Participation and/or leadership in CCAs, schools/community projects
